Our search for the divine manifestation within has often taken us to the top of the mountains to the underwater paradise and now to the internal spaces of the caves. A cabinet meeting inside a cave is like having a candlelight dinner in broad daylight. Tourism in Meghalaya will find a newer dimension to hone foreign currency.
Meghalaya, India’s most sought after tourist spot has a string of caves for adventurers, historians, archeologists, philosophers and nature-lovers. The Meghalaya Adventurers Association have organized a tour that covers these caves situated at the foot of the Jaintia Hills.
With its scenic beauty the landscape around the caves intensify the tourist’s hope with aesthetic and ethereal vivacity. The Myntdu river girdles the town like a necklace. Historically important as it is, this 970 m long cave has sheltered both the tribes as well as saints. As a hiding place, it has served as hide-outs during the war between the Jaintia kings and the foreign intruders and the tribes to remain united for long. Well that is history. As a place dissected from the world outside it had allowed others to follow Yoganidra for complete mental peace and tranquility.
The chain of caves the Krem Kotsati Cave, Krem Umshangktat cave, the Kremlashinng, Pdengshakap cave and the Krem Sweep cave have active waterfalls, cataracts, comfortable stretches of moist sand, stalactites and stalagmites besides other geographical features that make the tour a handsome energizing process. No wonder, people from all over the country come here not only to get the feel of the past but also the geographical status. Of the two mountain ranges the Arabella range and the Tura range, the latter has a beautiful range of hills that lends an artist’s canvas a comely landscape surrounding the low lying plains with the meandering Brahmaputra softly caressing the region. The huge stalactites and stalagmites in the image of a huge Shivalinga draw a large number of Hindus during Shivratri.
The most popular places to visit are Balpakram , a National Wild Life Park, Shillong’s wards Lake and Kyrdemkulai Lake a veritable picnic spot for sight-seers. The climatic impression has certified Meghalaya as the Land of Orchids, inundating it with almost more than 250 species with varied colors and shades. Other notable features include Sweetfalls at the Umkhen River, Rongbang falls on the Simsang River Beadon falls, Bishop falls, Spread Eagle falls and Elephant falls. The plethora of flora and fauna with its daunting wild life like tigers, bisons, Boars, barking deer, sambars, leopards, apes, monkeys, clouded leopards, bear cat and the golden cat and others as well as exotic reptilian charm make a tourist’s recipe of the tour.
